For Sale – Maybe?

As you get older, the possessions you have collected over your life begin to be less important. Some naturally wear out, some become obsolete, and some you just lose interest in. I’ve been on a decluttering kick for more than a year as I approach the end of my 7th decade, and it has been remarkably refreshing. It’s an odd sense of starting over, of zeroing in on what’s most important. For the most part, I’ve felt very good with the choices made.

What has surprised me though is how difficult it is to re-home camera equipment and accessories. The consumer market is changing and has changed significantly. It’s been frustrating to declutter these items. Find out what I have tried and what success I have had. It might surprise you…

One Door Closes…Again!

Back in 2014, I made the decision to retire from full-time work. I was proud at the time that I was able to make a career in jobs I never really loved but that were enough to fund my other interests, such as photography.

In 2021, I decided a little more work was ok, for the first time in a field of interest, and accepted a part-time job at Henry’s, one of Canada’s leading camera and video retailers. This week, that too has come to an end, making room to move forward into new personal challenges.

The job at Henry’s was not just another job. It filled a gap that was years in the making. And it came at a time when the Covid pandemic had stripped away all of my regular face to face human contact. I needed it more than it needed me. So why am I leaving?

Never Say Never

I did something last week that I never thought I would do again. I started a new job. That’s right. I’m back in the workforce, earning bucks. It’s not full-time and may not even be for a long time, but it is an official job.

A few weeks ago, my local camera store held a job fair. Anyone interested could meet with management and have a chat. I happened to hear about the opportunity and thought, why not. I love talking to people about photography, I love helping people discover something new, and to be truthful, Covid has had such a bad effect on my psyche that getting out into a public space on a regular basis would be good for me.
